Teacher Education Workshops

It takes inspiring teachers to inspire students. We work with local partners to train teachers working in schools near sea turtle hotspots in Latin America. These workshops aim to get teachers enthusiastic about teaching their students about sea turtles and their conservation. Teachers are trained in sea turtle ecology, threats, and conservation, effective environmental education techniques, and learn games and activities that can be done in any classroom.

We held our first two workshops in Jiquilisco Bay, El Salvador in 2013, training more than 30 teachers and community leaders who educate more than 2,400 students in the area. In July 2014, we will hold two more workshops in Costa Rica in partnership with Latin American Sea Turtles, Sea Turtle Conservancy, Osa Conservation, and other partners.

Student Scholarships

Educating the young people who live near turtle hotspots is key to the long-term conservation of these animals. Our support helps get these kids active in local conservation programs and offer hands-on learning opportunities. So far we have helped our partners educate more than 1,000 students in four countries including Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.
